Fox Antifreeze 2018
Event date: Sunday 4th March 2018
We know this was a popular choice with some of you last year and we will again be supporting the event which takes place 1 hour’s drive North of Aberystwyth at Coed y Brenin Forest Park.
Coed y Brenin
Coed y Brenin Forest Park’s name is synonymous with mountain biking, the location’s story reads like a history of the development of trail centre mountain biking. The centre was the original UK trail centre, first opened as a dedicated location for mountain bikers to enjoy their sport over 25 years ago. From its first purpose built MTB trail, installed some 20 years ago, to the present day, the centre’s trail network has grown and expanded to offer hundreds of miles of world-class mountain bike trails. Alongside the development of the trail network, the visitor centre has also been relocated and expanded to offer a complete hub for visiting mountain bikers with cafe, warm dry changing and showers, bike wash and a large bike hire and retail shop in the form of our partner store Beics Brenin.
This hub also offers the perfect location for this winter event, with start/lap/finish area just yards from the cafe balcony, spectators and finishers can enjoy the comfort and warmth of the cafe serving everything from hot drinks and snacks to full meals. The format creates a real buzz at the centre as spectators congregate to watch riders enter the lap pass chicane, deciding whether or not to take on “Another Lap”.
The staggered start also removes the pressures and bustle of a mass start event. Riders can depart at their leisure at any point that the event start remains open. This allows friends to ride together at their own pace, it also reduces bottlenecking issues on course allowing the organisers to include more singletrack in the event route.
While the Fox Antifreeze should certainly be considered a winter event, the location of the forest park provides good tree cover to shelter from the worst of the elements and the quality of Coed y Brenin’s all-weather trails means that even in the dampest conditions, you can still expect good riding.
The event has sold out every year since its inception and with strong early ticket sales we’d advise entering early if you are thinking of giving it a try.
You can expect to see Summit Staff helping out, marshalling and riding and if last year is anything to go by we’ll probably see a lot of our customers taking part too.
The event is open to mountain bikers aged 16+ on the event date. More information and entries can be found on the link below:
