Come and visit us, make a day of it. Aberystwyth is a wonderful day out with some great cafe’s, coffee shops and restaurants on offer. Take a walk on the seafront promenade, grab a drink and take in the sea view at one of the many seafront bars or do a little shopping in town. For those with a sturdy set of legs, take a stroll up Constitution Hill or if you don’t feel up to the climb, take a ride on the hill’s historic cliff railway.

The seafront castle, war memorial and old college are impressive features of the town’s sea views. Taking a stroll along the full length of the seafront from harbour to Constitution hill is a well worthy exercise.

Local Riding

West Wales is a cyclists dream, filled with quiet country back roads and scenic mountain passes for the road cyclist. And, for the mountain biker there are miles of twisty forest singletrack and rocky mountain trail to explore. Wales, with its network of off-road trail centres and varied open forest and mountain terrain, offers enough mountain biking to feed the appetite of even the most trail hungry cyclist.

If you are looking for an easy recreational cycle there are two wonderful local options.

The Rheidol Valley Cycle Trail runs from town up the picturesque Rheidol Valley, the route of the Vale of Rheidol Steam Railway.

The Ystwyth Trail runs from town on mostly level traffic free routes along the Ystwyth.

Information and maps for the Rheidol and Ystwyth cycle trails can be found here:

http://www.discoverceredigion.wales/outdoor-activities-and-adventures/cycling-and-mountainbiking/

Road cyclists will enjoy the many options to build circular routes from the town, try taking a spin out via Devils Bridge or the Nant-y-Moch reservoir.

Nant yr Arian Trail Centre

For mountain bikers there’s the extensive Cambrian Mountains to explore or our great local trail centre just 8 miles from town.

Full information

and downloadable .pdf trail maps can be found on the  Nant yr Arian page on mbwales.com

Meet the team

Jim Haddon (Manager)

As our Store Manager and Bike Fitting Specialist, Jim is skilled in all manner of bike alchemy and our go-to guy for pretty much anything. While his roots are in mountain biking he’s equally at home on the road and has even been been known to take on the occasional mountain marathon. As our longest serving team member Jim has been providing sagely advice to our customers almost as long as we’ve been in business. From bike selection to mastering the higher level functions on your Garmin device, ask Jim and he’ll no doubt have the answer. And as a Trek Precision Fit Specialist, Jim has also undergone extensive training in the science that lies behind modern performance bike fitting and he holds an impressive track record in helping riders deliver their best on the bike. This also makes him the most in-demand member of our team, so please don’t ask him when he last had a tea break.

Gaz ‘Tron’ Chamberlain (Sales)

Gaz is our shopfloor customer service supremo, his role includes ensuring the smooth running of all those essential daily tasks that often go unnoticed, including stock control, ordering and following up our customer enquiries. He’ll most likely be one of the first to greet you when you walk through the door and is always ready to help with any request you may have. When he’s not keeping the good ship Summit Cycles on course, Gaz will most likely be found exploring local trails around Aberystwyth or tuning the performance of his treasured heated boot drying rack….well, it rains a lot round here.

Nathan Daverson (Workshop Manager)

Nathan is all about bikes. Road, mountain, it's all good to Nathan. He spends his working days turning your worst mechanical nightmare into bikes that run like a dream. In his spare time, he can be found enjoying the regions back roads and mountain trails, notching up some epic miles on his own bikes. He has recently developed a bit of a penchant for the gravel and has been notching up some miles on the dirt roads and rough riding delights we are blessed with here in the West.

Charlie Morgan (Workshop)

Charlie is a migrant from our Beics Brenin store where he used to help keep the wheels turning on our large hire fleet. He's now a permanent part of our Summit workshop team and brings his experience and expertise on mountain bike care to customers of our Aberystwyth store. When not working Charlie can often be found exploring the crags and peaks of Wales, on foot or by bike. And keep your eyes peeled as he's also been spotted displaying his varied musical talent around mid Wales.

James Pachebat

An experienced bike technician with a penchant for urban freeriding. James can turn mundane street furniture into his bicycle play park. He'll (attempt) to ride pretty much anything, probably in a way that will leave you scratching your head as to what just happened. When not on his bike or working on yours, you might find him chasing surf.

Toby Bragg (Marketing and Events)

Toby has been part of Summit’s story since the shop first opened it’s doors in 98 when he traded 6 weeks as a shop floor employee for board and lodging to help get Summit rolling.  Since then Toby has been a cycle industry fixture, working mostly in distribution.  He’s not scared to grab a wrench though and has served time as a brake tech at events on the mountain bike world cup race circuit. Toby’s role is varied but includes tinkering away in the back office, feeding the social media monster and knocking our events into shape. We’re told he also had a clandestine spell as an award winning artisan baker but we’re still waiting for cake to materialise.

Joe Hayward (Owner)

Cut Joe and he bleeds chain lube.  The owner and founder of Summit Cycles, Joe has been riding bikes for longer than any of us, particularly Joe, care to remember. His days as an Elite XC racer might be done but Joe is never far from the saddle and likes to make sure we all know his pedigree isn’t tempered by his years.  Likewise experience hasn’t dampened his love of cycling and his hunger for new challenges and exploration, so when he isn’t seeking out and testing new trail sections for events like the Dyfi Enduro he’s probably hammering out some extra miles on his gravel bike.  His talent off the bike as el Capitán del barco has got Summit and it’s sister store Beics Brenin where they are today.
